THE GROUP…..
Orissa as a state faces many social problems like women atrocity, Natal mortality, child labour, rural and tribal empowerment issues. The government, national and international voluntary organizations are working hard to eradicate the problems by encouraging many mass media activities, social upliftments and may other programmes. To bring about a change the organizations have adopted many methodologies like street theatre, print and electronic media, lectures etc. Even though mass media has been very effective especially through theatre, folk and traditional dances street plays etc. Theatre among them is considered a medium that has been able to successfully disseminate developmental messages within the context of entertainment.
Abhinaya Jagruti Institute of Theatre (AJIT) is a professional group of the theatre professionals and lovers. The goal of the group was to publicize theatre in the modern world. The idea was not only to bring the mass to the auditorium but also to convey social messages in a realistic manner. The idea was to put forth a podium wherein talents would be exposed, literature unveiled and tradition, folk and culture showcased.
The institute was started on January 20th, 2001 by theatre artists mostly the students of Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalya with a motto of reaching the mass through their talent and also celebrating their Guru, noted theatre and cine celebrity of Orissa Mr. Ajit Das’s birthday in a unique fashion. “AJIT” began its first chapter on 20.01.01 by staging a Oriya classic “ANUPRASA” Subsequently this group was registered under the Society Act in Nov, 2004 with a handful of successful plays in its pocket.
THE PLAY…..
In this crowded world man in his twilight years is forced to live alone, today relationships have become superficial, when man’s own family slowly leaves old parents due to employment, education and modernity and also selfishness. The older people are forced to stay alone to keep their identity intact.
Independence in the life though lonely makes old people feel their life is more meaningful rather than adjusting to the modern life of the society. Western culture has set in and nuclear families are the new trend, the younger generations are in rat race, if at all they want to look after the parent they want it in their way they need space the daughter-in-law wants to shirk responsibilities, children belong to the modern age of gadgets where the older generation feel lost. Let us hope older generation will lead life with self-respect.

DIRECTOR’S NOTE…..
The subject of senior citizens plight in today’s national front is a great concern, this script Eka is about such a person who is fighting for his self-respect and independence. In today’s scenario the trend of sending parents to old age home has become a routine feature. Few persons who do not want to be with their children and be with the familiar surroundings and their friends, if alone they want to remember their spouse and their presence in the home they have built in their life.
This is a contemporary situation which has to be taken care of. I want to change the situation and I fully sympathize the senior citizens.
