French playwright PIERRE de BEAUMARCHAIS (1732-1799) was known for having dared to publish Voltaire and two anti-aristocratic plays of his own – The Barber of Seville (1775) and The Marriage of Figaro (1781). He was a French polymath. At various times in his life, he was a watchmaker, inventor, musician, diplomat, arms dealer and revolutionary etc.
The Barber of Seville or The Useless precaution was first produced by Gioachino Rossini with an Italian Libretto by Cesare Sterbini. The premiere show was took place on 20 Feb, 1816 at the Teatro Argentina in Rome. Later in 1947 a film was made by Mario Costa based on Rossini’s 1816 opera.
This play – KYA KAREGA KAJI is an adoption in Hindustani by our late Guru J. N. Kaushal (NSD). We are producing it under the old fashioned comedy having fantasy mixed with Realism. Many improvisations took place during rehearsals however few selected beyond the script. This presentation is not influenced by Commedia-dell ‘ arte or any other folk forms of India. Body movements, Speech, Pace, Rhythm, Speed and given space are elements under which my Actors are creating their roles.
