THE PLAY…..

The End of “Wisdom“is the End of Civilisation itself. This message is encased in the very contemplative emotive play “PUNASCHA ABOLAKARA “.

Once upon a time, a benevolent King ruled a country enriched in every sphere like art, culture, agriculture, economy, science and whatnot. All sections of people of the land were living happily and peacefully because of good governance of the King. In the later stage of his life, the king desires to leave the throne and moves to forest for “BANAPRASTHA“. Before that, he discussed with his most trusted advisors, the Minister and Bigyanbyakti (The wise man)about his successor.

Having deemed his spineless, mentally parasite son unfit for the throne, the king wishes to establish democracy in the country and to let the people choose their suitable ruler. Soon the news reached to the prince by a cunning ambitious courtier. The furious prince apprehending of losing the throne, killed his father by a secret killer with the persuasion of that cunning courtier and declared himself as the new King.

After becoming the king, he appointed the cunning courtier as his new minister expelling the former. In this changing scenario, the cunning new minister virtually misruled the country in the name of the new King which leads to complete anarchy in the land. Due to miss-governance, once a rich and developed nation gradually faces many problems, mentally parasite and spineless King dismissive of every prudent advice of Bigyanbyakti chooses to approve strange and disastrous decisions suggestedby the cunning minister which only multiplies the problems.

Disruption of law and order, followed by bankruptcy, food crisis, ecological imbalance, infertility of agricultural land, widespread unknown diseases including death of new born babies leads to a critical situation,as such…once an affluent prosperous land turns into a lifeless desert, where greenery has been replaced by unending drought…. where clouds no longer percolated… where not evena blade of grass grows… the devastated land completely barren… and then…

DIRECTOR’S NOTE…..

Sri Sitesh Tripathy is a well-known litterateur of the State. The storyline of the play depicting about the futuristic universal problem and unique style of writing of Shri Tripathy will compel the audience to ponder over it. The mindboggling story depicts the possible cause of destruction of any developed country which makes the play very much relevant to the present-day society. Moreover, narrators of the play, two characters from famous Odia folktale ” Abolakara Kahani “, Gosain (The Pandit) and Abolakara (The disciple) have been clubbed very interestingly which is fascinating enough to direct this play.
